Invisalign® in Albertson

What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a system designed to straighten teeth without the unsightly appearance of traditional braces. The system is ideal for older teens and adults who want to receive orthodontic treatment without the distraction of braces.

The process begins with taking a digital impression. This step helps the dentist understand the current placement of your teeth and where they will be after treatment.

The company then creates a sequence of clear plastic aligners to nudge each tooth into its ideal location. The patient changes aligners every one to two weeks. In 12 to 18 months, the patient's smile transforms.

Chimon Family Dentistry offers Invisalign® teeth straightening services. To make an appointment, call 516-877-2737.

Benefits of Invisalign®

Invisalign® has many advantages compared to traditional braces:

Straighten Your Teeth Privately

With Invisalign®, you can improve your smile without drawing undue attention. No one needs to know that you are receiving Invisalign® treatment.

No Painful Adjustments

Since Invisalign® works so gradually, there are no adjustment appointments. You may experience minor discomfort as your teeth shift, but you can control it with over-the-counter pain medication if necessary.

Fewer Appointments

When you have Invisalign®, your dentist will only need to see you approximately once every six weeks. Compare this to monthly appointments for traditional braces.

Eat Anything You Want

One of the best things about Invisalign® is that you can take them out when you eat. You can eat chewy, crunchy, and brittle foods like chips and corn on the cob. Take out the aligner, eat what you want, then brush your teeth and rinse the aligner before replacing it.

Easy to Keep Teeth Clean

One major disadvantage of traditional braces is that cleaning around the appliances is challenging. Sometimes braces patients experience more decay and gum disease in the future. Invisalign® solves this problem. Since the aligners come out, it's easy to keep teeth clean.

Straighter Teeth Are Healthy Teeth

After Invisalign® treatment, you will find that your newly straight teeth are healthier. It is easier to brush and floss and harder for food to become stuck, causing decay and plaque buildup.

Since your teeth will experience fewer problems, you may keep more of your natural teeth as you age.

Are You a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?

Older teens and adults make the best candidates. Older teens should be close to finishing growing. Anyone who wants straighter teeth but balks at wearing braces should look into Invisalign®.

Invisalign® is suitable for most patients with crooked teeth, but in some cases, dentists will recommend traditional braces instead. Invisalign® does not correct severe malocclusion or bite issues.

People with missing teeth or severe gum disease may not be able to use Invisalign® unless they receive treatment for these issues first.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

Here are our patients' most common questions about Invisalign®:

How long does Invisalign® take?

Invisalign® takes about 12 to 18 months in most cases. It takes slightly longer than traditional braces because tooth movements are gradual and subtle.

How do I clean my aligners?

Invisalign® offers a branded cleaning solution kit. You can also use mild liquid soap and water or denture tablets. If you use soap, ensure it is clear and undyed to prevent staining. No matter your chosen method, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and don't scrub your aligners too hard.

For how long each day do I wear my aligners?

You need to wear them 20 to 22 hours per day. You can take them out to eat and drink, but you'll need to put them back afterward. Be sure to clean your aligners and brush your teeth before putting them back in your mouth.

Will I need a retainer after Invisalign® treatment?

You may need a retainer after Invisalign® to preserve your new smile. Retainers are crucial in preventing your teeth from reverting to their original positions.

Is Invisalign® appropriate for kids?

Invisalign® is best for people in their mid-to-late teens and up. Before this point, children have not yet stopped growing. In most cases, traditional braces are a better option for younger patients.
